Re: 2013s are here
I wouldnt have a ducati. Dont like the dry clutch. Probs wont get insurance on it either. With the MV its a lot of bike. Not just power but maintenace costs and where I live I doubt it will last 1 day outside my house and work.
I like the idea of having a new hyo and also a GSXR and a kawasaki for the agressive looks of it. I dont know what to get.

Re: 2013s are here
Discounting the MV , I would also bypass the 250 ( mainly because the remaining 4 bikes are ALL 650 cc and over so that says - to me at least - that the 250R is the money choice rather than your heart choice )
Next you have to decide Naked or Sports ............
Out of the Naked bikes , I would say the Kwak is the better bike ( the Aprilia is a little left field IMHO but then so are the Hyosungs )
Out of the Sports bikes ........ HMMMMMMM
This is a hard choice ............... do you go with the 650R ( I am biased here mind ) , which handles well , has a belting motor , sounds awesome ( with a decent can ) and with around 80 BHP at the crank is plenty powerful enough to get you in AND out of trouble ( and keep up with your mates on BIG bikes ) ....................
OR do you go with what is widely regarded as the BEST GSXR ......the 750
With similar handling to the 600 and similar power to the 1000 ......... the 750 is a brilliant compromise ....... but comparing it to the Hyo would be a little unfair
It has LOADS more power , speed , far better handling ( more after market goodies available ) , better re-sale value too , if truth be known ........
But the Hyo will beat it HANDS DOWN on CHARACTER
What would I buy ??
Well I sold a naked Honda 750 and a sports Yam 750 to make room for my Hyo 650
But then I had already been down the Jap i4 route for years before
Decisions , decisions

Re: 2013s are here
The conflict for me is betwwen the GSXR and the GT650R. He GTR because of its rareity and character but the GSXR it just cheeper to buy and has got more umph. The GSXR that is reaonable affordable for me on insurance is the 2006 model. The only thing that puts me off that bike is the exhaust. Im not a fan of its location and it after market bros. It would be betterif it had a can like the GTR.

Re: 2013s are here
What about the K5 model Gixxer ( 2005 model )
[img][/img]
I guess I'm pretty old school in my preferences ................. the K5 is the last Gixxer I would consider ( I don't really like the looks after that year ....... but that's me mate , sorry )
Any model from the SRAD to the K5 are all fairly good looking and would be my choice or maybe an old 750L Slingshot
The only problem for me is I'M HOOKED ON V TWINS NOW
How about an old 900SS Ducati or 748

I carnt get insurance on the GSR for some reason Its the same with the GSXR 600. When I do the quotes on them comparison sites I just get a message cannot quote for my details on the GIXXER 600. But yet I can get insurance on a GIXXER 750 and MV Agusta. I cannot understand the whole insurance pyramid scheme

Re: 2013s are here
I cant figure that one at all chap since the GSR is a soft tuned GSXR with roadster wrapping. Are you looking at one of those comparison sites or at a specific insurer?joel352 wrote:I carnt get insurance on the GSR for some reason Its the same with the GSXR 600. I used to run an FZ6N (naked) which featured a very thinly disguised R6 motor. The press hated it and gave it a truly lousy write up. I loved its peaky performance. If I wanted to tap dance on the gear lever, it could be made to move at staggering rates above (10,000). If the road was slippery, the smooth and undramatic delivery at lower revs ( below 10,000) ensured good wet weather traction. I am convinced that the reason I liked it was the same reason the press hated it. In order to ride it you had to have your head in gear full time. The point I am making is that the reason I originally bought the FZ6 was purely accidental. I saw a demo bike in the local Yamaha dealers and took it out for a good blast for the day. So before you decide what you should or shouldn't have, disregard what the press and all of us say, try to get a demo ride and have you own mind.

Re: 2013s are here
I have tryed using comparison sites, local sites and special places.
This is the K6 I went and had a look at. It is very very clean and runs fine. It just feals a tad pricey for a K6. Would you pay that much for a K6.

Re: 2013s are here
There's something I once did which was quite successful, I decided upon exactly which bike I was after and I put a wanted advert in one of the magazines. I got good responses from genuine private sellers and ended up with a bike which was far cheaper than I had expected. All I had to do was load it into my mates van, take it home, and MOT ,insure it and tax it. I got it very cheap because the owner couldn't be bothered to MOT/insure/tax and just wanted to get some money quick. All it cost me was a phone call to the HPI company to make sure it wasn't a write off or the property of a finance company and they told me that it was clear over the phone there and then.

Thats quite a good idea. I might have to do something like that. I keep seeing bikes that say HPI clear. What will HPI tell me.

Re: 2013s are here
HPI runs a check on the bike to see if it has been an insurance write off or if there is outstanding finance on it. If there is outstanding finance on a bike it means that somebody never paid their HP payments and the HP company still legally own the bike. If you do a HPI check it means that they make sure that the bike which you are buying is clear and they will guarantee that when you pay for the bike, it really does belong to you.joel352 wrote:Thats quite a good idea. Those things are FECKIN' AWESOME
Seen Superdukes ride rings round Gixxers , R1/6's and the like in the twisties
AND , they sound fantastic with a decent set of cans on ( like the one in the link )
Excellent choice mate if the insurance is favourable

Re: 2013s are here
Tick VG! go to the top of the class! this man will go far! Don't know of any weakness! I rode one when the v twins first appeared, very much as Baz said. More than a few Ducati owners showed some concern too.

Re: 2013s are here
Insurance is good. A bit excessive but affordable. I would prefer a super sport rather than a naked but currently if I cannot get hold of a supersport then I am quite tempted by this.
Current list is
Suzuki GSXR 750 2006
KTM 990 Super duke
Kawasaki z750
Gona do some more bike shopping when I get payed out to have a look whats going.

Re: 2013s are here
GVs arnt my style pal. Im more of a super sport super naked person. Plus I have to get it in back garden and I dont think GV would get up my ramp I built, the long wheel base might make bike bottom out. The GT125R just got up with maybe half a inch to spare.
Carnt get insurance on the ZXR 750, well affordable insurance anyway. TPO £1745.60. TPFT £4760.95 FC Uninsurable.
Thats why I carnt figgure out insurance. I can get insurance TPFT for a GIXXER, 990 duke, MV agust all under £1700 but my friend pays £1600 for a ER6F TPO. I just doesnt make sence.
