We've started modifying an 02 plate Cruise 2. The bike was taken in part exchange for my son's AJS Regal Raptor:

The bike came with MOT and TAX, but since we both had bikes we decided to get straight to work on turning it into something less ugly Laughing

The frame had been repainted, but there was rust peeking through again so we stripped it down to find out how bad things were:

Obviously the best cure was to take everything off and clean the frame up properly. While we were at it we decided to remove a load of brackets and mountings that wouldn't be needed for the rebuild (were re-doing the whole look of the bike):

So far the swing arm, stand and headstock have been given the same treatment and are sitting in primer. New steering head bearings have just arrived so I can start a mock build to work out what we're going to do about a rear mudguard, seat and battery box.

Should be a long term build as we'll need to secretly finance the parts from the house keeping money Razz

When I joined the forum I intended to make a fairly regular, detailed diary of this project. Guess that hasn't worked out too well Embarassed

Work has been progressing well, mostly cleaning and rust removal :roll:Not my favourite passtime, but needs must.

Finally I've started getting the bike back together and painted, hopefully more fun stuff ahead engineering new parts instead of spending every day covered in old grim and rust.

Here's the progress so far:

Frame and engine are pretty much sorted. The rear mudguard is a fibreglass front unit I found on ebay for a leading link front end. Looks like it was made for the job though Very Happy

I want to lower the rear end a little, so I'm currently investigating some custom made rear shocks as I can't find any 11" units off the shelf Sad

Next step is to find a suitable single seat unit and get it mounted, that'll let me work out the handlebar height and peg position. The look of the bike is definitely improving though Cool
