Tyres for the wetter weather
Well it has come to that time where the hypersport tyres have to go and some tyres that stand a chance in the corners in the wet have to go on.
I had battlax tyres on the hyo and was impressed with them and had no issues so I went with my guy and got the new Bridgestone Battlax BT-023 front and rear.
I did a few miles breaking them in and was already impressed with them. The steering response is a bit better than the Avon hyper sports I had on and the feel was good. I think it felt a bit better as the Avon's had a little flat spot on them. I went out for a blast the other day in the dry and went on some twistys and the feel was superb. I didn't have to worry about grip or heat as from leaving the house when they were cold to giving it the beans and tearing round the twistys, there was no grip issues and the steering was fine.
Then today was the wet weather test. It was raining cats and dogs so I decided to go out and give the tyres a good wet run to see if they are any good. I did get a little bit wet but it was worth it to know how my tyres feel. Soooooo, there is no issues with the tyres spinning up on power and the cornering is as good as it is in the dry, and I feel like the bike would perform as it does in the wet as it does in the dry,(maybe being a bit optimistic there but im not doing 200MPH round the isle of man). I like how I feel when riding the bike as I don't have to worry about the bike loosing grip in the corners as there is plenty there and I feel they are up to the task.
If you are wanting some tyres that will cope with the wet and when we get that odd dry day then I would recommend these tyres so far. I have had no issues and I feel confident that these tyres will cope with the task and with what I am wanting. I will put a few more updates as the tyres go on to let you know how they are coping. But I would recommend these tyres so far.

Re: Tyres for the wetter weather
I have these tyres on my Hyo too
Grip in all weathers is good as you say , I have no issue there ...... BUT
Just one thing to keep your eye on Joel ........... there are reports that certain sizes / profiles of these tyres can produce a slight high speed wobble in long curves
And I can vouch for this .............
I didn't hear about this until I'd had my tyres on around 3 months ........................ which was 3 months of taking my tyre back to the supplier and having my wheel /tyre checked , balanced and scrutinized because every time I hit 80 MPH ( track days of course officer ) or more , the whole front end would shimmy and cause the bike to weave like a fish
I knew they used these tyres at Ron Haslams' Race School so I figured it HAD to be the bike or the wheel or else they wouldn't use them , would they ............. BUT
after having the wheel balanced over and over again , the tyre re-fitted , wheel bearings checked and greased , head races checked and greased ......... I finally read in MCN ( when they were testing the NEW, latest offerings from the tyre manufacturers by which time the BT-023's had been around for about a year and were SUPPOSEDLY outclassed by the Dunlop Roadsmarts and the '' NEW '' for the time Metzeler Roadtecs ) that a HIGH SPEED WEAVE in long M/Way style curves is a COMMON occurance on some bikes
Obviously not all bikes but on some , so must be down to either SIZE or PROFILE .......
It may be that the Hyo wheels just don't suit the 023's whereas the the different profile of the front and wider rear of most modern bikes ( just think how many bikes use a 120/70 front as opposed to the Hyos' 120/60 ) and same for the rear ...... a lot of 600cc and over use a MINIMUM 180 rear tyre ............
Strangely enough , when I bought mine , I had the rear changed first and ran it for a couple of weeks with my old front tyre ( which was still OK , it had just been the rear that had '' squared '' off enough for an advisory on my M.O.T. ) ....... and the bike was SOOOOO stable , the rear stuck like shit to the proverbial blanket - which impressed me SO MUCH that I bought the matching front to make the most of the improved grip
So , it seems it's the front tyre that has thrown a spanner in my works .............. gonna try Michelin Power's next I think or maybe try GeeMan's recommendation of Conti Road Attacks ( he loved those on his Hyo 650 )
Like I said Joel , it will more than likely be just the Hyo but just be aware , if you do get a weave - IT'S THE TYRE AND NOT YOUR BIKE

Re: Tyres for the wetter weather
Well I did 100 (at cadwell park ) and there was no issues and I take the long rout to work just to take a nice corner and its a fast one and there was no weave so I may have got lucky there.
When I get to summer next year I might get some hypersport tyres on and store the BT023 till the wet weather comes if its possible. Its only a case of wheels off tyres on and its about £30.

Yeah , it seems like the smaller /older style wheels like the Hyo are the ones that don't suit the 023's whereas more modern bikes - gixxers , blades , cbr6rr etc are a perfect blend of size /profile
There's a guy on Northwestbikers.net that can get cheap used tyres ( usually Pirelli Corsas' ) , I'll let you know next time he has some on offer if you like mate ......... ideal for the summer

Re: Tyres for the wetter weather
Cheers baz that would be cool. Its just for the summer blasting. Would like something with a bit more stickyness to them for the corners.

Re: Tyres for the wetter weather
Well if he can ride a bike round a corner with them tyres on and not throw the bike down the road then im all good.
I just need to stop listening to my dad rambling on about what is best for me because he is me apparently and knows best now I have got a gixxer.
When I had the hyo and I wanted parts advice its all look online, look around and just get whatever. Now I have a Suzuki he makes decisions for me.

Re: Tyres for the wetter weather
Hahaha !!!! ................ that's dads for you mate
We're all the same lol !! it's a kind of built-in instinct to re-live our youth through our kids ( especially if they ride bikes )
I'm EXACTLY the same with my lad .............. he's just got an Aprilia RS125 and I've probably done ALL the same things your dad has done ( found all the faults - no matter how small - and suggested how to fix /improve them , commented on how he could have got a newer model for less money and generally , got on his back about stuff he should /needs to get done IMHO )
I guess , what I haven't done ( and I presume your old fella is the same ) , is tell him how proud I am of him , he's got himself a cracking little bike - it's the 2005 model ( last of the Rossi/Biaggi style RS' ) but it wasn't registered 'til 2011 ( it sat in Robinsons of Rochdale as a display model for 6 years ) , it has only got just under 2500 miles on the clock , it is a FULL POWER model so it's pushing ( depending on who you listen to ) anything between 28-33 BHP AND ............... he didn't pay a penny for it
His mum bought it for him as a birthday present
I'm sure your dad is just as proud of you ( like the rest of us dads he just doesn't say it enough )

But I do agree with you about dads.
But I do wind my dad up. I say to him when he says whens it my turn I say to him you would'nt know what to do with it or well its got a lot of power under that tank I dont think you would be able to handle it

Re: Tyres for the wetter weather
on the subject of tyres I am looking at the Michelin road pilot 3's I can order some in the right size but the speed ratings are W and the hyo's are H will these be ok or is it not recommended ?
Michelin Pilot Road-3 110/70-17 54W & 150/70-17 69W
Hyo standard 110/70-17 54H & 150/70-17 69H
oh and sorry to hijack your thread joel

Feel free to hijack it any time pal
With speed ratings, I don't think having a higher speed rating will affect the bike. Baring in mind you have to take into consideration tyre heat, pressure, load, road condition ECT. But I may be wrong. I have always followed the manufacturers recommended ratings for tyres.
F - 50 MPH
J - 62 MPH
L - 75 MPH
M - 81 MPH
P - 93 MPH
R - 106 MPH
S - 112 MPH
H - 130 MPH
V - 150 MPH
Z - 150+ MPH
W - 167 MPH
(W) - 167+ MPH
