Brake Upgrade
Ok , so this is what is waiting to go on the front of my 650
[img][/img]
Of course , there will be a PAIR of these , not just the one in the pic
Nissin calipers off a 2002 model Honda CBR 600 FY ........... Master cylinder too
[img][/img]
Funds are low at the minute , which is holding things up but all I need now are new Braided Hoses .............. going for a 2 line set up ( hopefully going to get Goodridge Build-a-line kit ) but as some will know , I can't just buy a bike specific kit 'cos of my bars and the fact that the new calipers will sit lower than the OE calipers
Hopefully will have this all sorted in time for Billing in July

Re: Brake Upgrade
Looking good Baz, have brought a black master cylinder from a bandit 600 off of eBay £20 , soon as I can afford it I'll get some RED brake lines and change the lot.

Re: Brake Upgrade
Got mine made for me by an engineering firm in Leigh , Manchester ............ I made MDF templates and got him to copy them
You can buy something VERY similar off ONE OFF CUSTOM DESIGNS ( through their Facebook page ) ....... theirs' are 2 piece where as mine are 1 solid piece ( wished I'd copyrighted the bloody things now ...... I sent detailed pics and measurements to a guy on Korider.com and within a couple of weeks OOCD had produced their own version which looks ALMOST IDENTICAL when the 2 pieces are together )

Re: Brake Upgrade
Well , haven't been on the forum much lately so this is just an update on the stuff I haven't done
Cash is in short supply as usual , so it's took me a while but I did manage to buy some of the parts needed for the BUILD-A LINE kit ..............bought a couple of the angled banjos that I will need ( and will be in a position where I can buy some more next week and possibly the lines the week after ........ fingers crossed )
Also managed to buy a new STATOR COVER GASKET ............ when I replaced my stator , I managed to rip the gasket and so ever since due to the rip ( and the fact I re-used the old gasket rather than replace it ) , my bike has had a slight oil weep which means every couple of days or so , it gets harder to find neutral than normal and the gearbox becomes really notchy and therefore has to be topped up at least once a week .
So with a new gasket and some MORE fresh oil , all should be well again
All that will be needed after that will be a new chain and sprocket set for the M.O.T in August

Re: Brake Upgrade
Well , been busy at work the last couple of weeks ( working loads of overtime ) , so funds have looked a little healthier so I changed the stator cover gasket last weekend ............ and can happily report THE OIL LEAK IS CURED
Have also bought a couple more banjo's , so all that I need now are a double length bolt and the 2 brake hoses ( next week ) .............
Would have bought one of the lines this week but decided to buy a new Renthal front sprocket instead
Get paid tomorrow , so will be ordering a new X-ring chain , so hopefully , I should be all sorted for my MOT ............... hope so 'cos my insurance runs out 2 days after MOT runs out

Re: Brake Upgrade
OK , latest update .........................
Have now bought all the bolts and banjo's I need , so just need to put them all on as a mock-up so I can calculate/measure the length of hoses I will need
Still not got a new chain as yet ................. though I am waiting for my new LIGHTWEIGHT ALLOY rear sprocket to be delivered
Was going to order a SUPERSPROX rear sprocket ( as they don't do a Hyosung fitment , I would have had to have one custom made ) , however , even though you can buy them for most JAP bikes for around £45-£50 in the UK , a custom job HAS to come from direct from the manufacturer in USA ............... would have cost a TOTAL of $213 USD to be deliverd to UK , which is around £143 ........................ YES £143 , that isn't a misprint ............. AND there would probably be Import Duty to pay on top of that too
Soooooooooooo .......... after a little searching on T'internet , I came across a UK company that could make me a LIGHTWEIGHT ALLOY sprocket ala Renthal style , which can be anodised in a variety of colours AND delivered for under £50 , so I am now awaiting the arrival of my new RED rear sprocket
Chain is next on the list

Re: Brake Upgrade
Looks like its all coming together Baz. I like the idea of having a red sprocket. That will look tasty.

Re: Brake Upgrade
OK guys , here's the latest update ...............
Well , it seems I've been screwed yet again
The red sprocket I ordered hasn't turned up yet and even after numerous phone calls ( phone doesn't even ring , just cuts off after a couple of seconds ) and several e-mails and a couple of messages through a contact form on the companies' web site .......... I have had NOTHING in the way of communication other than an initial e-mail from them to confirm my order
It's like they have just vanished or stopped trading ........ FFS
So , next step is a PayPal dispute to get my cash back
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY GUYS ..................... MOTO-RACING.CO.UK
MEANWHILE .....................
I have now finally got ALL the pieces necessary to complete the brake upgrade , so I'm just waiting for my son to come back from holiday then we can arrange a weekend where we are both off work then we can fit it all ( just easier to bleed the brake system between the two of us )
Was my M.O.T. on Friday ( 16th ) , so due to the saga of the red sprocket I was forced to buy a STEEL rear sprocket so that I could replace the chain set ............... which although I was a little pissed off that it wasn't a nice lightweight alloy one , I am SOOOOOOOOO glad that I did manage to get it done as it meant my bike PASSED with NO PROBLEMS or ADVISORIES
Plus the fact , you can really tell the difference between the old knackered chain set and the new OH SO SMOOTH one
So , a mixture of good and bad luck this month .............

Re: Brake Upgrade
So , latest update ...............
Well , not too long after my last post I had my heart attack ............. so after a short stay in hospital , I am now off work ( my 6th week up to now ) and under strict instructions from Mrs Bazza ( and my Doc as well ) to take it nice and easy .
So unfortunately , that has meant NO WORKING ON THE BIKE
I'm allowed to ride it now of course but nothing else at present , which means all my nice new shiny brake hoses and banjos are still in their wrappers
Hopefully going back to work on 21st Oct , so after that there's no reason not to to do the swap ......... all the financial outlay is done so it's just time and effort now
Can't wait now , my brakes are due a good strip and clean ready for winter anyway ( I'm having to pull harder on the lever more and more ) , so to be able just to change the lot over will be great

Re: Brake Upgrade
Well it's been a while since I last updated my thread .............................. OK then , first of all , I will upload some pics soon guys ( promise ) but for now let me just say '' IT'S FINISHED ''
However , first impressions are mixed ................ the brakes themselves , stop the bike on a penny .... '' Stoppies Sir ? No problem '' but the lever has no effect on the brakes in the first part of it's travel meaning , where I normally have my adjuster set to No.3 , I now have to have it on No.6 otherwise the lever touches the bar before the brakes engage
At first it was a bit disconcerting having so much travel on the lever , especially as nothing happened in the early part of the squeeze but with the lever on No.6 , I can brake as hard as I like using just 2 fingers and the lever won't touch .
I'm not too sure why this has happened ............ it could be because the Hyo rotor is thinner than the Honda rotor so the pistons have further to travel or it could be DOT 5.1 fluid I'm using ( I've always used DOT 4 in the past ) or even the lever itself may be at fault and then there is always the possibility that the seals have gone in the master cylinder and are letting fluid past ( though there doesn't seem to be any loss in pressure when braking ) so I may have these replaced before my M.O.T later this year . There are no leaks anywhere either ( I have checked and re-checked just to be on the safe side )...................... if funds ever allow I would like to change the rotors to either some Armstrong or EBC ones ( especially those sexy wavy discs ) too
All in all , I'm glad I have done the swap as braking in general is sooo much better than before

Re: Brake Upgrade
On my gsxr I had a master cylinder recal done on the front brakes. I have ASV shortys on and the new cylinder made the brake leaver come in quite far befor the brakes came on. It turned out the standard plunger rod was shorter than the ASV supplied one. Swapped over the rod and brakes back to new.
might be worth looking at.

Re: Brake Upgrade
Cheers Joel
It's worth a look , although my levers are just cheap chinese ones and as such aren't supplied with any bits like yours so I may not be able to do much about that

Re: Brake Upgrade
Cheers mate ............... does that go on the end of the lever or in the master cylinder ?
If it's the lever then it won't fit on mine ( it doesn't have a plunger like that on it )
