Hi from bradford
Hi everyone, i picked up my 2008 gt125r about 5 weeks ago and couldnt be happier with it, sounds nothing like my old cagiva mito :-) I have already removed the tube from the air filter and put on a short sports exhaust along with an oil change and some new plugs but does anyone know of any budget ways to squeeze a little more power out without resorting to putting a 250 engine in?

Hi pal. If your from bradford im not to far from you im in halifax.
If you want a little more top speed put an extra tooth on the front sprocket you can push it past 80mph then.

Am I right in thinking that sacrifices acceleration? Its acceleration im looking for really so if i loose a tooth on the front end will that do it?

The idea is more on back less on front more acceleration less top speed. I beleve just dropping a tooth wont make much of a difference if you dont have more on the back. Adding that extra tooth on just helped it push up to 80 but I couldnt notice a difference between the two sprockets.

Re: Hi from bradford
hi guys. im from bradford too. ive brought myself a gt125 aswell but the engine was seized so i took it off and replaced it with the gt250 engine. also got the 520 guage - 112 link chain with 46 tooth rear sprocket and 13 tooth front to improve accelaration. and a 250 exhaust too. now i just need a decent mechanic to wire it up and get this badboy on the roads.. any advice anyone.....?

Welcome to the forum Chief
Use the carbs from the 250 or you will need to re-jet the 125 carbs to suit ( assuming you haven't done this already )
Oh , and don't forget , if you're on ' L' plates it is actually ILLEGAL to use a 250 motor ( you need a full or restricted licence ideally ) but other than that ............... enjoy the extra horsepower

Yes Baz I was thinking about re jetting carbs as oppose to getting a 250 carb. They cost a flaming fortune. Am aware of restrictions on license and also the 650 wouldn't be an option for me I'd rather get a sv650. Purely for curb weight. I'm 5ft 7" and weigh 65kg. A gt650r would crush me like a mouse.

Haha !! Only 5ft 7" myself though admittedly I am a little heavier, much to the annoyance of my doctor ( had a heart attack last year so I'm supposed to be on a health kick lol ) !!
